The studio

A New Blueprint for Deeper Learning

We are a small South African education design studio creating structured, project-based learning designs for Grade 4–7 learners.

We replace busy-work teaching with scaffolded, inquiry-driven designs that move overstimulated, AI-native learners from noticing, to building, to articulating deep understanding.

We design the structure, sequence and learning scaffolds so educators, tutors and parents can guide rich project work without planning everything from scratch.

Designing a weekly mission: structure, sequence and scaffolds.
  • Who we are

A small South African education design studio.

  • What we do

We create structured, project-based learning designs for Grade 4–7.

  • Why we do it

To move AI-native learners from noticing, to building, to explaining real understanding.

  • For whom

Educators, tutors and parents who want rich project work without planning from scratch.

Framework

What the inside of a lab looks like

Each Lab is a connected weekly mission, delivered as a complete project pack, so the adult always knows what to do and the learner always knows what to make.

  1. 01

    A weekly mission

One real-world challenge that runs across the week and connects every subject to a single purpose.

  2. 02

    A daily rhythm

Each day moves the mission forward through a clear, repeatable sequence of activities.

  3. 03

    Subject-linked tasks

Reading, numeracy, inquiry and design, all taught through the mission, not alongside it.

  4. 04

    A learner-created project

A model, plan or prototype that the learner builds and then explains in their own words.

  5. 05

    Reflection & simple rubrics

Clear prompts and rubrics that make progress and quality visible to both learner and adult.

  6. 06

    Facilitator notes & levels

Guidance plus support, core and stretch levels, so a single design meets a wide range of learners' needs.

The PPL Rhythm

One repeatable six-step cycle

The same rhythm runs through every Lab, so learners always know the move they are making and why.

Projects

Four grades and a Tailor-Made route

Each grade is built as a Project, with weekly Labs inside and an optional Tailor-Made route for schools and centres that want a custom design. First-term designs for Grades 4, 5 and 7 are in development.

Inside Grade 6: five weekly Labs

Each Lab is a complete mission. Learners investigate, design from evidence, build, and explain the system they made.

  1. 01

    Eco-Base

Design a self-sufficient base that can survive in a harsh environment. Learners balance energy, water, food, waste and design decisions, then explain the system they built.

  2. 02

    Extreme Weather

Investigate how extreme weather forms and how communities prepare and respond.

  3. 03

    Future City

Plan a city that works: transport, housing, public space, sustainability and trade-offs.

  4. 04

    Oceans & Tides

Investigate how oceans move, shape coastlines and affect life, working from evidence.

  5. 05

    Space Colony

Design a livable settlement beyond Earth using science, systems thinking and real constraints.

The developmental pathway

Every grade runs the full cycle

Each grade moves through the full cycle. What shifts from Grade 4 to Grade 7 is not the sequence of steps, but the centre of gravity: thinking becomes more prominent as the learner ascends.

    Who we serve

Built for people who believe in true mastery

Six kinds of people use Primary Project Labs. Each one gets the same structured project work, shaped to how they teach.

      The PPL Engine

Beneath every Lab is a layered capability system

We combined two established curricula and evolved them into a single, cohesive system, firmly rooted in a CAPS-style structure so schools and parents immediately recognise and understand it. The result is 19 capabilities, organised into 5 clusters, deliberately sequenced across the year.

        1. 01

          Why project work needs structure

Structure is what separates a project from a busy afternoon.
